When Xiaomi first entered the market with their home devices, one thing we didn’t expect to see was a smart bedside lamp.
Lo and behold, right around 2019 the brand came out with the Smart Bedside Lamp 2 which initially started as a crowdfunding program and was later released to the general public at a mouth watering price of roughly 50 SGD.
When I first used this lamp I was taken aback by how simple it was to control. The lamp supports Wi-Fi which means that it can be voice controlled and it can also be adjusted via either the touch sensitive panel or through the Mi smartphone app.
With a color temperature of up to 6500K and as low as 1700K, the lamp 2 comes loaded with some pretty nifty features that make it worth every cent.
Let’s take a look at the Xiaomi Mi Smart Bedside Lamp 2 price and review in Singapore to determine whether it’s something you might consider buying.

Xiaomi Mi Smart Bedside Lamp 2 Design & Build
The Smart Bedside Lamp 2 really appealed to me and I liked the minimalistic design and cylindrical body. It is completely plain and there’s nothing around the lamp apart from the touch sensor/slider to adjust the light sensitivity.
While I first thought the body was made from glass because of its glossy finish, I later realized that it’s entirely made up from plastic and this is a good thing as I now don’t have to worry about breaking the lamp or seriously damaging it if I dropped it by accident.
The bezel at the base of the lamp has a matte finish and offers some grip while holding the lamp. It’s here where the power inlet port sits and that can be connected to any rated power source with the help of the charger that comes in the box.
At the base of the lamp 2, I also noticed that it has rubber padding to ensure the lamp is stable and I also found a QR code that once scanned, took me to the Mi Home app download page on my Android phone.
In terms of size and weight of the smart bedside lamp 2, it’s neither too big nor too small and sits just right on the bedside table. It’s just big enough to illuminate a portion of the bedroom, but in my case it was perfect for my whole bedroom because the room is small.
The lamp measures roughly 5.51” * 5.51” * 7.87” and weighs roughly 780 grams making it quite lightweight and small.
Xiaomi Mi Smart Bedside Lamp 2 Brightness and Light
As far as brightness and light go, the Xiaomi bedside lamp 2 proved to be a worthwhile buy and it performed exceptionally well in the bedroom. The light did not strain my eyes and it’s actually quite pleasant to look at.
The brightness was adjustable and could be set from 2 lumens to 400 lumens and the RGB color setting on the smartphone unlocked over 16 million color options to choose from.
Basically, the lamp combines the three primary colors in varying degrees to achieve the desired color. This can be adjusted by simply sliding over the color gradient in the app.
From what I can tell, it does what it’s intended to do, and that's to be a bedside lamp. The light can be adjusted to a level that assists with sleep and this really helped me catch up on some shut eye.
Xiaomi Mi Smart Bedside Lamp 2 Connectivity
While I did love the design and levels of brightness and color options, the lamp 2 was disappointing when I decided to take a look at what it could be connected to.
There’s built-in Bluetooth 4.2 and Wi-Fi, but don’t let that fool you because it can’t connect to many devices. The built-in Wi-Fi supports a range of 2.4GHz and will only connect to the smartphone if it’s connected to the same 2.4GHz network.
On the other hand, the lamp can be connected to both Android and iOS devices via the Mi Home app. The Yeelight app also just so happens to work with the bedside lamp 2 and can be used to change the color of the light or adjust the brightness and temperature.
It’s pretty cool even though it lacks many connectivity options, and the voice control feature adds value to the lamp because it can be controlled with simple voice commands by pairing the lamp with Alexa, Google Home or Apple’s HomeKit.
Xiaomi Mi Smart Bedside Lamp 2 Functionality
The Mi smart bedside lamp 2 is a pretty straightforward lamp. There’s not much going on with the body, but the slider and a couple of touch sensitive buttons help power on/off and control the lamp without the help of an app.
However, while using just the touch strip, I was not able to change the temperature of the lamp 2 and could only increase or decrease the brightness by sliding on the strip or changing the mode/color of light.
A single tap at the base of the slider turns on the lamp and I was able to change the color by short tapping the button at the top of the slider. Long tapping the top button also changed the mode, but I was unable to make changes to the temperature unless I had the Mi Home app installed or had the lamp connected to Alexa or Google Home.
In terms of the apps, I felt the Mi Home app was much more streamlined when compared to the Yeelight app and the entire interface was pretty minimalist and smooth. Via the app I was able to adjust the modes, rate of flow speed and set timers for each mode including wakeup and sleep time.
