Xiaomi is well known for their innovative devices and one that really caught my attention was their Mi cordless trimmer 1C.
The new wireless trimmer is the successor to the Mi Beard trimmer and is loaded with some pretty amazing features that make it a true must-have.
It was launched way back in 2020 and it still is one of the most popular and affordable beard trimmers available.
The big question is, whether or not the 1C is worth it in 2022.

The Mi Cordless Trimmer 1C was first released in 2020 and was available to the general public for $15.99 USD.

Xiaomi Mi Cordless Trimmer 1C - What’s in the Box
Upon opening the box, I came across a number of items. To start with, the first item I found was an instruction manual that details how to use the trimmer as well as the warranty information.
Further down there’s a small cleaning brush and a microUSB charging cable. The one thing Xiaomi did not include in the package was a charging brick, so I had to get creative.
Next, I found a soft travel-friendly pouch and then at the bottom of the box was the trimmer.

At first, the trimmer looked like it was made from an aluminum alloy, but on closer inspection, the body of the trimmer was made of really good quality plastic. It does in fact look quite like the Mi beard trimmer, but with a few minor changes.
The trimmer 1C is slightly tapered at the base and this helped improve the grip. The body is all black and has a minimal design.
There’s a power button at the center of the hilt and right above that is the dial to set the cutting length and width. This dial feels sturdy and there’s a slight click when different modes are set.
At the bottom of the trimmer there are three LED lights that indicate whether the battery is low, has some charge or is fully charged. Unlike most trimmers that have the charging port underneath the base, the Mi cordless trimmer 1C has a concealed microUSB port near the base of the hilt, at the back.
From what I can tell, there’s not a single beard trimmer in the market today with such a good design and durable build that costs so little.
Xiaomi Mi Cordless Trimmer 1C - Noise and Vibration
Buying a trimmer is great and all, but it’s best to get a trimmer that makes little to no noise and the Cordless trimmer 1C hits it right out of the ballpark.
The 1C was not loud at all and by using a decibel meter I was able to get a reading of below 45 decibels which is way more silent than Xiaomi’s beard trimmer.
I also noted that the 1C produces less vibration and does not heat up as fast as the Mi beard trimmer. After using the 1C for around 30 minutes at a stretch, the body temperature was normal and this made it easier for me to get a hang of the trimmer.

In terms of performance, the 1C killed it. It was a hassle-free experience and extremely comfortable to use.
The length settings were pretty on point and while other brands tend to offer over 30+ settings, I felt that the 20 that come with the 1C are more than adequate for my day to day use.
One feature that I liked about the 1C was that it had a safety lock that prevented the trimmer from turning on by accident. Enabling this lock is an effortless task and all i had to do was to hold down the power button for roughly 3 seconds..
The comb that comes with the trimmer 1C can be removed and by doing this I was able to achieve a 0.5mm clean shave without any snags or pricks on my skin.
And like the Mi beard trimmer, the 1C is not waterproof and to clean the blades, I had to remove the head unit, wash and dry it separately before putting it back.

Coming to the battery and charging capabilities of the 1C, the trimmer is equipped with a built-in rechargeable battery and a concealed microUSB port that I could use to charge the trimmer.
Since there was no charging block in the package, I was able to connect the trimmer to my laptop and powerbank to charge it and it didn’t take more than 2 hours for the battery to be fully recharged.
I got around 60 minutes of runtime per charge and if I used the trimmer only for around 10 minutes everyday to trim excess hair, the battery lasted an easy 2-3 weeks.
The 3 LED indicators I spoke about earlier are accurate and showed me when it was time to charge the trimmer.
For a trimmer that costs so little, it comes with an auto power-off feature that cuts the supply of current as soon as the battery is fully charged. The trimmer can be left on charge overnight, but I highly recommend disconnecting or turning off the power supply after the battery is full.
