How to choose a 5G phone?
Choosing a smartphone requires you to go through many specs and features like processor, RAM, cameras, battery, and more. All of the above applies to 5G phones too. You need the best specs and features along with 5G capability for the best 5G phone.
But other factors affect 5G performance too. There are different types of 5G technology, which affect network performance, and there is also the number of bands supported by a phone that affects 5G performance.
When it comes to the types of 5G technology, there are three,
Low Band - The baseline version of 5G which offers 20% faster speeds than 4G and coverage over long distances.
Mid Band - This can be up to 6 times faster when compared to 4G but you have to be closer to a tower. It is still ideal in terms of performance boost and tower proximity, so in cities or urban areas, you will be able to access Mid Band 5G.
mmWave - The pinnacle of 5G technology that offers ultra-low latency and the fastest speeds. This can be up to 10 times faster than 4G. This technology runs on higher frequencies and bandwidth and so the downside is that it requires close proximity to the tower.
A true 5G phone should support all the technologies. But so far only high-end flagships support mmWave 5G technology.
Similarly, there is something that is known as bands, which determines the frequency range supported. And so the number of bands supported should be high which means you will get support for the full range of the 5G spectrum.
Here too, higher-end smartphones support a wider range of bands while low-end 5G phones support only a couple like N77 and N78 which might not be useful in the long run.
So when you are buying a smartphone for its 5G capabilities, make sure that it supports mmWave and 10+ bands at least.
Are 5G phones worth it now?
Honestly, no. 5G is not even implemented in most of the country or the world. Only a few areas have true 5G coverage with support for mmWave. And it will take a few years for 5G to be the norm.
So investing in a new phone just for 5G support is not recommended unless you are in a city with 5G support. But if you are buying a new phone, then getting a 5G phone would do no harm. Just choose the right one with support for many bands and more technology.
Conclusion
So, there you have it, the list of Xiaomi phones that are 5G and a pick of our favorite 5G Xiaomi phones too. There are a few things you need to keep in mind before picking a 5G phone like bands and 5G technology support, I have explained them too.
